Thanks to Ms. Wilson' receiving a grant (CT Grown for CT Kids), we have focused on healthy eating and a garden initiative. Each class will go individually to The Little Yellow Farmhouse in Stonington.
Topics include sustainable agriculture, crop rotation, cooking skills, and composting. Kids will participate in experiential activities designed to spark dialogue around food system issues. It's hands on work together to prepare and share homemade meals centered around farm-fresh ingredients. In addition, we consider how food and farming can be used as an entry point to various subjects and standards. This is exciting stuff, Mrs. Hummel was excited to chaperone 5M and participate in cooking and eating a kale salad, butternut squash soup and an apple crisp!
